so live is staying probably very old fashioned and inferior in the midi department thanks to going the quick and dirty way with the initial implementation. They only way ableton can get to this kind of futuristic functionality from now is to rewrite the whole midi clip thing.Īnd that is sad somehow because it makes it unlikely to happen. actually i would love to have that in one clip instead of 2. I allways record an audio to the midi as refference. Warp markers for midi would have been consequent and would have openend a door for seemless multitrack manipulations over audio and midi tracks as they would be the same. IMO ableton should have used theier audio clips as the modell for the midi clips instead having that as an other file format with just rudimentary options and primitiv handling. but all the midi clip functionality is not very well planed thru.and they wre just building on that initial miss allignement. The problem with the thru is even bigger for me.

The basic problem seems that Live internally doesn't handle midi channel information. So we have to set a seperate thru track for any channel to allow editable multitimbral midi recording.īut dont have multitrack/clip editing like in all the other midi daw´s-īroc wrote:Ok, I see.

and abletons midi is not really made to work with multitimbral hardware devices. In logic or cubase i just record that into one track.and i can switch the editor to only show me notes on channel 1.Īctually something ableton could include to ease that pretty screwed situation. and when i ve done that i have no possebility to have any real edit on that group. and when i perform on this machine and want to record my performance i need 9 tracks in ableton for that including one for the system channel when i work with the global control of the G2. So it sends on 9 different channels in the standard config.

Unlikely scenario? my nord modular is sending out on 4 channels and controls another 5 other midi expanders. The latency thing is more than enough to qualify as strange.Īnd that you have to set 16 tracks with channel filters to allow studio midi recording that is able to recieve on any channel with the ability to seperate them afterwards again is more than strange,īefore the intriduction of grouptracks that was nothing you really could have handled. I think routing midi input thru tracks is normal behavior of any DAW, no?

In what sense do you mean that ableton's midi thru handling is "strange" (apart from latency)? 3phase wrote:most likely your problem is related to abletons strange midithru handling.
